Balsu Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. is a publicly traded company, registered as a joint-stock company under the Turkish Commercial Code, with domestic capital and a corporate structure. Through its domestic and international subsidiaries, it operates globally in the field of hazelnut supply and processing.
Balsu Gıda is among the largest companies in the sector, both domestically and internationally, supplying natural and processed hazelnuts. Thanks to its experienced expert staff, since 1979 it has been carefully selecting hazelnuts from different regions of Türkiye, processing them with state-of-the-art technology, and offering them to its customers with high quality standards.
Balsu has an integrated value chain extending from raw material procurement to final product delivery. This chain begins with the sourcing of hazelnuts from farmers and traders, and continues through processing stages such as cracking, roasting, chopping, grinding, and packaging.
Balsu has two integrated facilities: one in Ordu that processes hazelnuts, and the other in Hendek, Sakarya, which transforms hazelnuts into finished products using state-of-the-art technologies. The Hendek facility is equipped with climate-controlled warehouses, high-capacity silos, cold storage facilities, and modern processing technologies.
Balsu is among the leading global companies in the hazelnut industry and exports, with sales offices located in the USA, Germany, Hong Kong, and Istanbul. The sales office in Munich, Germany (Balsu Europe GmbH) was established through the acquisition of A&C Marketing GmbH. The sales office in America (Balsu USA Inc.) was established in 1994 as Balsu's first international venture. Customer relations in the Americas, particularly in the USA and Canada, are managed through the Portland office. The sales office in Hong Kong (Balsu Asia Inc.), operating since 2018, serves as a primary point of contact for business partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
Following detailed research and evaluations, Balsu chose to begin its international agricultural investments in Chile and established Balsu Agro Chile SpA in 2017. Construction of a hazelnut orchard began in 2018 on agricultural land purchased in the Maule region, with 30,000 saplings planted that same year. In 2019 and 2020, new agricultural land was acquired in the region, and new saplings were planted in 2021.
In 2019, Balsu established Balsu Industries Chile SpA in Chile, and with its high-tech hazelnut processing factory, it is resolutely continuing its journey to further expand its global market share in the hazelnut trade, starting with the Americas and Asia-Pacific countries, and to become the best in the world.
Half a Century with Hazelnuts:
A Story of Responsibility
If God grants me life, in two years I will have completed exactly half a century intertwined with hazelnuts. This journey, which began with a one-person company we established in Germany to earn money as a university student with no connection to the Black Sea region or hazelnuts, has reached a point today that is actually not bad at all.
Pioneering Technology and Innovation
For the past 50 years, our perspective has been not just about cracking the shell of the hazelnut, but about processing it to the highest possible degree to create added value, and in return, we are rewarded with more than 8 world patents today.
Furthermore, with our BEST Program, we are proud to lead the way in finding solutions to address the shortcomings of modern agriculture in our country.
A Global Brand: BALSU
Today, BALSU ranks among the world's leading companies in its sector, thanks to its state-of-the-art facilities, processing capacity, and quality management. Through customer relationships built on trust since 1978, we have become the number one choice for the world's most prestigious chocolate and confectionery manufacturers.
Having chaired numerous organizations for many years, from the Istanbul Exporters' Association (İİB) to the international INC (International Nut and Dried Fruit Council), we have waged a serious struggle for Turkish hazelnuts.
However, throughout this 50-year period, our biggest struggle has been certain structural flaws that we have constantly tried to explain:
Structural Challenges
Due to the inadequacy of modern farming techniques and orchard scale, our average yield is far behind that of our global competitors.
Unwavering determination to find solutions in the face of challenges is BALSU's greatest driving force. We will not give up.
Social Responsibility and Ethical Agriculture
Beyond being one of the companies with the largest turnover in the sector, we are also thankfully pioneers in our social responsibility projects.
We are staunch advocates for the end of child labor. Through our projects spanning over a decade, we have helped tens of thousands of children live better lives.
In our country, where there are more than 460,000 producers, we have launched the 0 traceability journey for hazelnuts.
This initiative will both elevate quality to the highest level and be our most effective weapon in ending child labor.
Global Strength and New Horizons
Chile Expansion: In Chile, considered a leader among competing countries, we have made our mark on the global hazelnut trade, which is now becoming less seasonal, by establishing the most important processing facility there as of this month.
Public Offering and Responsibility: We are aware that by going public, our responsibility has increased exponentially. For us, success is not a place to rest, but a stepping stone to continuous progress.
Strategic Innovation: We have achieved a world first by producing activated carbon from hazelnut shells under our HENDEX brand, a product of strategic importance to our country. We plan to make our first deliveries this year to meet domestic market demand, as well as to begin exporting.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported us and stood by us throughout this journey.
Sincerely,
Founder

Believing in quality production rather than quality control, BALSU continues its journey to become the "best" in the world with persistence and determination.
BALSU Europe GmbH is based in Munich and was established in 1999 through the acquisition of A&C Marketing GmbH, a company founded by our founder in 1978. It meets the hazelnut and hazelnut product needs of our customers across mainland Europe with the most efficient logistics solutions.
BALSU USA Inc., our first international entity, was established in 1994. Our Portland office serves as the first point of contact for our clients in the US, Canada, and the Americas in general.
Established in Hong Kong in 2018, BALSU Asia serves as the first point of contact for our clients in the Asia-Pacific region.
Balsu made its first international agricultural investment in Chile in 2017 by establishing Balsu Agro Chile SpA. Since 2017, agricultural land has been purchased, and tree planting was completed in 2021. Today, the company has reached a total of 70,000 hazelnut trees on 160 hectares of land.
Balsu Industries Chile SpA, established by Balsu in Chile in 2019, will process hazelnut varieties using high technologies in its facilities and market them to European, American, and Far Eastern countries. With this investment, Balsu aims to play a significant role in further increasing its global market share in the hazelnut trade.
